Joey Depakakibo, also known as Joey D., was born on February 10, 1976, in Chicago, IL. He is a first-generation Filipino-American artist, animator, teacher, and muralist. He earned his BFA in Animation and Illustration from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1998 and maintains a diverse career that spans marketing & advertising to creating murals and product art. Joey has exhibited in galleries nationwide since the early 2000s. Growing up he watched a lot of television and movies and played many video games.  Reading comic books and eating tons of junk food has also messed up his brain. Trying to make sense of it all, Joey D. often finds himself escaping into his world of imaginary friends and other made-up things. When he’s not creating art, he enjoys adventures with his two sons and instills in them a deep appreciation for creativity.
